Wolf Double Oven Review
If you’re looking for a nice wall oven, then the Wolf double oven comes highly recommended. This brand is extremely high quality and has been around for quite some time.
However, it should be noted that Wolf has recently made some changes to its usual design and how it operates. Some people have enjoyed these changes and found them useful while others prefer the old design.
Whichever camp you fall into or if you’re totally inexperienced with Wolf products, what follows is an honest, unbiased review of the Wolf double oven that you can trust.
This Oven is Nice and Roomy
To start with, one thing you will likely appreciate about the Wolf double oven is how incredibly large and roomy it is.
All Wolf ovens are built to be wide and full. They also feature a deep curve in the back to allow the ovens to hold even the largest pans and the longest baking sheets.
While the “large and in charge” design may not be ideal if you want something a bit more compact or if you’re short on space, we think that, overall, the size of this oven is just perfect since it allows you to cook whatever you want whenever you want it.
Wolf Uses Blowers Instead of Fans
As mentioned earlier, Wolf has made some changes to its overall design in recent years.
The big one is that it went from using a fan to using blowers in its convection cooking.
Different people prefer different types of convection cooking, so whether you view this change as a good one or a bad one is up to you.
Most people who like the blower design feel that it allows for more even, stable heat. Those who prefer fans, though, often point out that, with a blower, the cooking time is slowed down. As you can imagine, some people take issue with this while others don’t.
Our best advice is to check out ovens with both blowers and fans and to see which one you ultimately find to work the best, if you even notice a difference. If it turns out you like blowers better or that you really don’t have a preference, then the Wolf double oven should be just fine for you.
Several Racks come Standard with this Oven
No products found.
Something you’re sure to like about this oven from Wolf is the fact that it comes with several racks included and ready to use.
The racks it comes with are four full-extension glide racks and two standard racks. These racks work great, allow you to cook anything you like with ease, and, in our opinion, were super easy to insert and take out as needed.
It’s also nice that you don’t have to go out, find the right size racks, and then hope they work easily with your oven. Instead, Wolf takes care of all that hard work for you, which is a very nice bonus.
Clever (and Cleverly Hidden) Controls
If you like the minimalist look in your kitchen, then you’ll love the Wolf oven. That’s because its controls are hidden carefully behind a sleek, steel panel that moves into place when you press a button. This feature allows your oven to blend seamlessly into your kitchen design most of the time and keeps it from looking too obtrusive.
Some Problems with Temperature Control
While there are certainly a lot of things to love about the Wolf double oven, it’s definitely not perfect. Some people report that they’ve had issues with this oven reaching the correct temperature and then maintaining that temperature.
Thus, if you are someone who cooks foods that require very specific temperatures or if you prefer for your meals to be done very quickly, this offering from Wolf might not be the best fit for you.
Not everyone notices this problem though, so it might not be something that bothers you at all.
A Timer You Can Customize Down to the Last Detail
Perhaps one of the best features of this double oven is the oven timer. While a timer might not seem like a big deal, this particular one has so many great features that you’ll quickly see what you’ve been missing out on with other ovens.
You can actually adjust the volume on this timer to ensure you can always hear it when it goes off but at a tone and pitch that’s comfortable to your ear. Plus, you can set the timer exactly like you want it. You don’t have to choose from just a few pre-selected increments the way you do with other ovens.
Choose from Ten Different Cooking Modes
Do you like to try all kinds of different cooking styles and methods? If so, then this oven will be perfect for you.
It actually has ten different cooking modes that you can choose from and switch effortlessly between. These modes include such exotic features as “dehydrate” and “bake stone.”
Unfortunately, some features do require you to purchase additional accessories. It’d be nice if they were included, but at least you only have to buy the accessories for the cooking modes you actually plan to use.
Typically Comes with a Great Warranty
- COLOR IS BLACK! (picture shows Stainless - Amazon won't change photo) - THIS UNIT IS BLACK!
- 4.5 cu. ft. Dual Convection Oven
- 10 Cooking Modes
While prices do vary on the Wolf double oven, it is, to be honest, one of the pricier ovens of its type.
With that said, however, your purchase will be well-protected. Most sellers offer an extensive warranty that covers things like defective parts.
However, you should always make sure you understand fully the warranty offered to you by your retailer. In fact, it’s worth it to shop around a bit to find not only the best price but the best warranty as well.
This is especially true since, unfortunately, many people have reported having to take advantage of their warranty due to problems with their models.
The Gourmet Setting is Super Convenient
One of our favorite things about this oven is the “gourmet setting,” which allows you to cook your food perfectly just by pressing a few buttons.
To use the setting, you simply select the type of food you’re cooking. Often, depending on the food, you can make even more detailed selections. If you choose “meat,” for example, you could then choose “steak.”
With many food items, you can even select how you want the dish cooked as well. After you’ve made your selections, you’ll be instructed which rack to use and, then, voila, all the cooking is left up to the oven. What could be better?
A Touchscreen Display that is Super Easy to Use
Many modern ovens are incorporating touch screens into their designs, and this one is no different.
What does stand out about this particular touchscreen, however, is that it allows you to easily choose from several different settings from one screen.
On one convenient screen, you will find all of the following settings available to you:
- Clock
- Current cooking status
- Timer
- Temperature
- Mode
If you want a touchscreen that won’t give you any trouble, this one is for you.
A Self Cleaning Feature that Makes Clean Up a Breeze
If you’re like most people, then there is probably nothing you dread more than having to clean up your oven.
Well, guess what? With the Wolf double oven, deep cleaning and scrubbing are things of the past. You can use the self-cleaning feature by following the simple instructions. And, just like that, your oven will be clean and ready for use.
Also, the self-cleaning job it does is very thorough. While many ovens do an “okay” cleaning at best, this one really does clean deeply and thoroughly, leaving you with no work to do after it’s done.
Some Report that It’s a Little on the Loud Side
One issue that people report with this oven is that it can be a little bit loud when it’s functioning.
Most ovens will give off a sort of “hum” or “buzz” when they’re working, though most people don’t find the sound annoying or even particularly noticeable.
For those who are a little sensitive to sound, however, there have been reports of this one being overly loud. You’re the only one who can decide if the sound bothers you or not, but it’s something to keep in mind if you tend to be particularly noise-sensitive.
There is no “Steam” Function Available
While this oven has a lot of great features, one feature it does not have is a “steam” option.
For some people, this won’t be a big deal, particularly for those who never really steam their foods anyway.
However, if you like to make homemade breads or other foods that need steaming, you may wish you had this feature. A good rule of thumb is to think about how much you’d use a particular feature and whether or not it would be a big problem in your cooking regimen if you couldn’t use it.
If it bothers you a lot, this oven may not be for you. But, if you don’t mind missing out on a steaming option, especially with so many other choices, then this offering from Wolf should work well for you.
Easily Tell what Modes Are Activated
We already mentioned how much we love the touchscreen on this oven, and the general screen is no different.
In fact, it is actually super convenient. For example, any selection that you’ve made or mode that you’re currently using will appear in bold font on the screen. That makes it very easy to ensure that you’ve selected all the right things and that everything you want activated is actually activated.
That might seem like a really simple feature, but it can help you to avoid cooking mishaps that can cost you time and sometimes even ruin your dishes.
A Convenient Delayed Start Feature
If you like to plan ahead with your cooking, you will love the delayed start feature available on this oven.
With delayed start, you can get a dish all ready, plop it in the oven, and then choose exactly when it will start cooking.
This can really come in handy when you’re cooking multiple dishes or you want to let a dish sit for a while before cooking begins. The feature is also very easy to use. There’s no complicated programming requirements here.
An Oven that is Designed to Last
Something else we really appreciate about this oven is that it is made to last for the long haul. Many people report having loved and used their Wolf oven or other Wolf products for several years.
While it is true that knobs and internal parts do sometimes have to be serviced or repaired, at least in some people’s experiences, the unit itself is very well-made and well-built and should be able to stand up to many years of regular use.
No Wi-Fi Connectivity
Many of today’s ovens actually have WiFi capabilities that allow you to control the oven even when you’re not at home.
Unfortunately, the Wolf double oven does not come with this feature…at least not yet. While that probably won’t bother you much if you’ve never had a Wifi oven before, it is a change that Wolf will hopefully consider making in the future.
All in all, this is a fairly good oven for the price. While not perfect, it does have many notable features. Our advice is to do your research, shop around a bit, and then make an informed decision about whether or not this oven is the right choice for you and your home.
